“We are moving on to Jacksonville,” O’Brien told reporters Friday . “Brian Hoyer will start the game and we will go from there.”
Hoyer came into Thursday’s game after Mallett had the wind knocked out of him in the second quarter, then proceeded to complete 24 of 31 passes for 312 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Mallett had completed 7 of 10 passes for 50 yards and one interception to that point.
Mallett looked upset as Hoyer played the majority of Thursday’s 27-20 loss to the Colts . He mistakenly ran to the locker room before the end of first half play, prompting more questions about his attitude.
Mallett told reporters after the game that he expected to be reinserted to the game once he got his breath back. “Yeah, never questioned that,” Mallett said. Hoyer, who has thrown for 780 yards, completing 59 of 95 passes, five touchdowns and three interceptions in three games, started the season as the top QB after beating out Mallett in the preseason. Mallett has played in five games, amassing 770 yards on 78 of 147 attempts, three touchdowns and four interceptions.
