Irwin posted a photo of herself and Powell holding a baby-sized zookeeper uniform as they stood in their own Australia Zoo gear. She also revealed she’s only in her first trimester, and the baby will be due sometime in 2021.
“It’s an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you,” she wrote. “Though I’m still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter. We couldn’t wait to share the news as this beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives. Your support means the world to us. Please let me know your best advice and send good vibes & prayers to our little sweetheart.”
Powell responded with a sweet note in the comments, too. “You’re going to be the best mother,” he said.

All of this talk of babies has us thinking back to the days of Irwin by her father’s side at the Australian Zoo and beyond. There are plenty of photos and videos of Irwin taking a leadership role in wildlife conservation work, even as a child. So, we’ve picked some of our favorites to reminisce on how far she’s come as an advocate and global voice for animal and environmental rights.
Though father Steve is gone, the Irwin family has continued his legacy. Along with Irwin, his wife, Terri Irwin and son Robert Irwin operate the Australian Zoo and its Australian Zoo Wildlife Hospital. Though the attraction is open to the public, their mission goes far beyond entertainment. The Irwin family has rescued a whopping 90,000 animals, which they revealed during the 2020 Australian wildfires.
Robert posted a photo of a platypus named Ollie on Instagram to mark the occasion.
Steve Irwin died in 2006 while filming in the Great Barrier Reef. He was stung by a stingray. The patriarch of the Irwin family was known for wild, animal-centric adventures, particularly his close encounters with crocodiles and other giant reptiles. The Crocodile Hunter aired from 1996 to 2004 on Animal Planet before his death. Now, the Irwin family has a television show, too. Crikey! It’s The Irwins began premiering on Animal Planet in 2018.
