Dimitrov, Bulgaria's best tennis player, celebrated his 23rd birthday with a victory, which saw 36-year-old Tommy Haas retire because of a right shoulder injury.
To mark his natal anniversary, Dimitrov was presented a cake during post-match activities. Fans serenaded with birthday wishes.
Then, pastry and prank intersected.
"It's definitely one of the most memorable days of my life," Dimitrov said upon reaching his first Masters series semifinal. "I'm just a happy birthday boy today."
