When asked about Durant’s injury, Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum told The Oregonian that Durant’s recovery time might take longer than expected:
McCollum dealt with the injury twice, once in college and then again as a rookie with Portland. He’s also not the only Blazers player to have had a Jones fracture. All-Star Damian Lillard also broke the fifth metatarsal in Dec. 2010 while playing at Weber St.
“There are methods you can do besides getting surgery, but it’s his first break, so I’m sure they’ll probably recommend surgery,” McCollum said. “Either way, it’s a tough injury to recover from, depending on if it’s broken through all the way, the placement of the screw. There’s a lot of things that go into it, but if they say four to six (weeks), it’s probably more like eight to 10.”
Hopefully for the Thunder, their bench unit will be able to step up and deliver in Durant’s absence.
