Birdie or Better Percentage Par 5 Scoring Approach Driving Distance
2017 BMW Championship Picks (Daily Fantasy Golf)
Top-Tier Plays Dustin Johnson The top overall play is a close race between Johnson and Jordan Spieth but Johnson’s ability to dominate on the par 5’s and his superior wedge play give him the slight edge. Johnson’s form is finally back on track after a bobble during mid-summer, and he looks primed to make a run at the Tour Championship. If we get wet conditions, his length off the tee will put him head and shoulders above the rest of the field. Jason Day Jason Day loves playing in the Midwest and has by far the best course history of anyone in the field this week. He won this event the last time it was held at Conway Farms in 2015 and finished fourth here in 2013. His game finally appears back to the level we’re used to seeing it, and a win here could get himself right back into Tour Championship contention. Day is priced at a decent discount from the very top end golfers and makes a lot of sense to pair with a player in the $10,000+ range. Mid Tier Plays Matt Kuchar Kuchar is my “just too cheap” play of the week. His all-round game makes him a good fit at every course except the longest of tracks, which this course certainly is not. He had a slightly disappointing showing last time out in Boston, but I really like this a bounce back spot for him after a week off. Kuchar is a near lock for cash games and makes for a tough fade in tournaments because of his price. Daniel Berger Berger’s recent form has left a lot to be desired, but the course fit is excellent for him to turn it around this week. He’s not the longest hitter off the tee, but Berger is by no means a plodder and is one of the better players in the field with approaches under 125 yards. Berger is another player who is a higher quality of player than his price would suggest and makes for one of the top value plays on the board. Others to Consider: Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel Value/Punt Plays Phil Mickelson Speaking of guys who can dominate with a wedge in their hand, I simply cannot leave Phil out of that conversation. He has burned me so many times this season, but I’m giving him one final chance to redeem himself. The rough at Conway Farms is pretty forgiving, so Phil will still have a chance to score when he inevitably starts getting loose with his driver, which we can look no further than last time out at TPC Boston (finished T-6) as an example of this. Xander Schauffele Schauffele is the stone cold minimum on DraftKings this week, and he has some great upside in this event. Conway Farms has a similar layout to The Old White TPC, and guess who won at that event this year - Xander Schauffele. He also played well at Firestone, which is another similar Midwest layout. Others to Consider: Bill Haas, Brian Harman
