If he gets a clean bill of health this week, Jackson could join the White Sox Sept. 1 when the majors expand their rosters. But at a $700,000 base salary and $10,000 per game, the most Jackson will earn this year from the club is just over $1 million-compared with his pre-injury $3 million with the Royals, says a Sox spokesman.
Jackson played his fourth game with the Class AA Birmingham Barons last week in Alabama after two games with Sarasota, Fla.’s Class A team. He finished his stint with six hits in 19 at-bats, a strong .316 average. Though it’s not clear yet whether he’ll fully recover, the Sox’s box office certainly stands to.
