Despite earning a reported $160 million from his fight last May against Floyd Mayweather, plus another $20 from his most recent outing against Bradley, Pacquiao will probably someday need the money a return to the ring would provide, Arum believes. But it’s his generosity, not his greed, that will deplete his bank account.

“He doesn’t have money problems now, but of course he’s going to have money problems if he’s going to be building hospitals out of his own pocket instead of letting the [Philippines] government build the hospitals,” Arum told ESPN.

Pacquiao’s wife and his next career as a politician are factors that will influence him to stay away from boxing, Arum said, but “a big payday is something he might require in the near future.”
