Full House star Saget, 65, was found dead in his Orlando hotel room on January 9, after performing at a show in Jacksonville. The comedian’s family last month stated that he passed away after he “accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it, and went to sleep.”

While it was confirmed that his passing was accidental and not linked to any illicit drug use, an incident report has shed further light on the fatal event, in the same week that Saget’s family successfully blocked the release of some records pertaining to his death.

The star was found to have had severe fractures to the back of his head and around his eyes at the time of his death, with an autopsy report indicating that the injuries he had sustained would have been too serious to shrug off.

According to the incident report obtained by People, the autopsy conducted by Chief Medical Examiner Joshua Stephany, M.D., stated that “the amount of force necessary to cause the fracture, coupled with the fact that the skin on the back of the head was still intact, led him to believe that the injury was most likely caused by ‘something hard, covered by something soft.’”

Such an injury could have been caused by “a fall onto a carpeted floor,” Dr. Stephany stated. According to the report, no blood was found on the bedsheets.

“Dr. Stephany stated that the fracture would have stunned Mr. Saget, and, even if the bleeding occurred slowly, Mr. Saget would have noticed symptoms such as dizziness, and there would have signs that were obvious to those around him, such as issues with confusion, balance, and/or slurred speech,” said the report.

Continued the report: “In a follow-up phone call with Dr. Stephany on January 11, 2022, I mentioned that Mr. Saget had apparently driven himself back from Jacksonville, Florida (approximately a two-hour drive). Dr. Stephany stated flatly that Mr. Saget could not have made any type of extended drive with the injury he sustained.”

Saget’s hotel room at Orlando’s Ritz-Carlton was re-examined after the autopsy findings in a bid to “locate specific places or items in the room that could have caused the trauma found on autopsy.”

The report stated: “The countertops, tables, nightstands, and other hard furniture in the room all had sharply defined edges and corners and were thought to be unlikely due to the fact that they would have lacerated the skin.

“The counters in the bathroom and the shower stall were ruled out for the same reason. Most of the chairs and couches were thickly upholstered and were too soft to have caused the type and extent of injury Mr. Saget suffered.”

It was added in the report: “As mentioned earlier, most of the suite was carpeted. The headboard of the bed was lightly padded and set slightly out from the wall. These are listed here as possible mechanisms of injury, but nothing was located in the room that allows for a definitive conclusion.”

The report went on to say that Dr. Stephany was unable to “state definitively when Mr. Saget’s head wound occurred, but he believed it was probably within hours of his death, possibly within a day or two, depending on several medical factors.”

Details of the incident report were revealed shortly after a Florida judge issued a permanent injunction to block the release of some records surrounding Saget’s death.

Saget’s widow, Kelly Rizzo, along with his three daughters, Aubrey, Lara and Jennifer, last month filed suit against Orange County Sheriff John Mina and the District 9 Medical Examiner’s Office.

In their filing, the family said releasing details of certain parts of the investigation “would cause irreparable harm in the form of extreme mental pain, anguish, and emotional distress.”

They had also requested that photographs, video, audio recordings, and other materials gathered in relation to Saget’s death be exempt from public request records.

While a judge temporarily blocked the release of the records in question at the time, Monday’s order has made the injunction permanent.

“The entire Saget family is grateful that the judge granted their request for an injunction to preserve Bob’s dignity, as well as their privacy rights, especially after suffering this unexpected and tragic loss,” Saget’s family said in a statement, per NBC News.

“We are pleased this issue has been resolved, and the healing process can continue to move forward,” the statement continued. “All of the prayers and well wishes continuously extended to the family are beyond appreciated.”
