“Live” has one reason not to listen to snobby detractors. Though every book picked by all the clubs, except for three, has been a best seller, Ripa with her picks has caused the publishers to print more copies on average of a featured book than either “GMA” or “Today.” There were 7,000 copies in print of “Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber,” by Adele Lang, when “Live” picked it in June. To date it’s sold 155,000. Kelly may have inherited the spirit of Oprah, but if she doesn’t run the selection process alone, and Regis leads the book discussions on air, why is it her club? “She runs the online discussions,” says Gelman. “She’s the booster.”
