Fucarile, who lost his right leg in last year's bombing, walked with a prosthetic and a cane to the mound Monday before the game against the Baltimore Orioles.

The 35-year-old native of Stoneham, Mass., handed his cane to a companion, wound up and threw to former Red Sox outfielder Kevin Millar.

The pitch marked a return to Fenway Park for Fucarile, who married his longtime fiancee Jennifer Regan at Fenway last week. The couple had delayed their wedding while Fucarile recovered from serious injuries.

CHARITY FIGHT FOR MARTIN, MALDONADO?

The bad blood from the Sunday afternoon brawl between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers is boiling over.

Carlos Gomez refused to apologize for his demonstrative bat-flip and Garrit Cole refused to admit fault for yelling at Gomez.

But Pirates catcher Russell Martin appears to want to kick things up a notch.

On Monday he suggested that during the offseason, he and Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado, who landed the biggest punch of the melee, trade punches for charity. "I’m throwing it out there," he said.

"If (Maldonado) wants to have a fight for charity in the offseason. My contract comes up. … I’d be completely willing to do that."

While bench-clearing brawls are a long-running part of baseball, it's highly unlikely that the commissioners office would be thrilled with something like this taking place over the offseason, or well, ever.

PIRATES' RODRIGUEZ TO DL

Left-hander Wandy Rodriguez was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Pittsburgh Pirates because of right knee inflammation.

Reliever Jared Hughes was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis before Monday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds. Rodriguez was 0-2 with a 7.65 ERA in four starts. He did not pitch after June 5 last season because of tightness in his forearm but has said since the start of spring training his arm feels fine.

Rodriguez was scheduled to start Thursday against the Reds. The Pirates did not announce a replacement.

Hughes did not allow a run in five appearances and six innings at Indianapolis, going 1-0 with three saves.

43-YEAR-OLD GIAMBI BACK

The Indians, as expected, have activated designated hitter Jason Giambi from the disabled list.

Giambi missed Cleveland's first 18 games with a rib fracture sustained during spring training. He's in the lineup batting seventh for Monday's series opener against Kansas City.

To make room for Giambi, the club optioned reliever Blake Wood to Triple-A Columbus. He went 0-1 with a 7.11 ERA in seven games.

The 43-year-old is in his second season with the Indians. He batted just .183 in 71 games a year ago, but Giambi provided leadership and came up with some big hits in the clutch. He finished with nine homers and 31 RBIs in 186 at-bats.

Indians manager Terry Francona said his club has missed Giambi during his absence. Giambi is expected to have a similar role this season, playing some DH and being used as a pinch-hitter.

Giambi has a career .278 average with 438 homers.
