The Braves on Monday designated Carlos Quentin for assignment, effectively cutting ties with the veteran outfielder. He will be released if the Braves can’t work out a trade that sends him elsewhere, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Quentin, 32, is a nine-year veteran and two-time All-Star who has seen his playing time slip in recent years with a variety of injuries. He appeared in just 50 games for San Diego last year, hitting an anemic .177/.284/.315.
Always a power threat, Quentin nevertheless hasn’t been able to match his 2008 season with the White Sox, which saw him hit 36 homers, post a .965 OPS and finish fifth in AL MVP voting.
