Defending champion Untapable will skip the feature event after trainer Steve Asmussen found the filly to be suffering from a slight illness following a four-furlong breeze on Monday. This will shorten the odds on race favorite Wedding Toast (4-to-1 in morning line). The Kiaran McLaughlin-trained mare is a speedster but has raced around two-turns only twice in her career, and some question whether she’ll be able to hang on at 1 1/18 miles. Sheer Drama (9-to-2) will likely go off the second betting favorite. The mare enters the race having won two Grade 1 races in a row and has finished second or better in 14 of 16 career starts.
We’ll have plenty more on Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup races, including selections for the late pick 4 that culminates with the Classic, the last race of American Pharoah’s career.
