Bill Belichick was a person of interest this offseason with Flores, sending now-infamous text messages to Flores that seemed to paint Brian Daboll as the Giants’ choice for head coach before Flores even interviewed for the position.

The text messages were unveiled in Flores’ lawsuit against the NFL, which cites racial discrimination, among other things.

Flores explained how crucial those texts were to his lawsuit in an appearance with “I Am Athlete”:

Flores would go on to say that he has the utmost respect for Belichick, citing him as a coaching influence of his when he landed with Miami.

The former Dolphins coach has a new job with the Steelers, who hired him last week to serve as the team’s linebackers coach and senior defensive assistant.

Coincidentally, linebackers coach is the same job he held while he worked with Belichick in New England before he was hired by the Dolphins prior to the 2019 season.

Flores was a finalist for the Texans head coaching job after the lawsuit came out, eventually losing out to Lovie Smith for the position. He also interviewed for the Saints’ head coaching opening, which ultimately went to Dennis Allen.

For now, Flores’ crusade against the NFL continues — and he has Belichick’s indirect help.
