Gareth Arnold, a former aide of Sheffield Hallam Independent MP Jared O’Mara, called his boss “the most disgustingly morally bankrupt person I have ever had the displeasure of working with,” in a series of tweets posted from O’Mara’s official account on Tuesday evening local time.

“Comms Team signing off… forever: Jared, you are the most disgustingly morally bankrupt person I have ever had the displeasure of working with,” Arnold wrote. “You do not care about your constituents. You do not care about anyone but yourself.”

“I cannot and will not defend you and your vile, inexcusable contempt for the people who voted you in. You selfish, degenerate p****,” he continued. “My fear is that now (as I quit) the rest of the staff will leave and once again you will close your office and stop helping anyone but still take your wages until you have the decency to call a byelection.”

“Leaving constituents desperate for representation again. No matter if they are having their homes taken away, their liberaties [sic] disgraced or being deported because of your inaction,” Arnold added. “Sheffield Hallam deserves so much better than you. You have wasted opportunities which people dare not to even dream of.”

Arnold ended his attacks on O’Mara by clarifying that he has chosen to leave his job, writing: “Consider this my resignation. Thanks, Gareth Arnold.”

Shortly after the messages were posted, Arnold shared additional remarks from his personal Twitter account, including one notifying the public that O’Mara had “messaged” him but has not yet noticed the tweets. “He pays that little attention to anything that he’s not even seen the tweet all of his constituents have. Unbelievable,” Arnold wrote.

The remarks were still visible on O’Mara’s account as of early Wednesday morning local time, roughly seven hours after they were first shared.

Arnold told BBC 5 Live that while he had only been an employee of O’Mara’s for roughly eight weeks, he had known the politician “for absolutely years.”

The bizarre Twitter tirade was not the first time 37-year-old O’Mara, who was elected into Parliament in England as a Labour Party candidate in 2017, has been the center of controversy in recent years. Four months after he was elected, O’Mara resigned from the Labour party after he was suspended over a slew of leaked misogynistic and homophobic comments.

In July 2018, O’Mara was reinstated as a member of the Labour party. He reportedly left again nine days later and has since been serving as an independent MP.
