First, Cleveland landed wide receiver Amari Cooper in a trade of picks with the Cowboys. Then, they made the biggest splash, trading a bevy of picks for Deshaun Watson, turning over the reins to the former Texans’ signal-caller instead of Baker Mayfield.

The moves have left Cleveland without a first round pick in 2022, but there are still a few areas the Browns are expected to address in this year’s draft.

Browns NFL draft needs

Wide receiver: Cleveland’s wide receiver depth was tested often during the 2021 season when Jarvis Landry was out, and it could be tested again in 2022 behind Cooper. When the Browns had their first-round pick, it felt like a given they would spend it on one of the top receivers. Fortunately for them, this class is loaded at the position, so they should still find a player to target early. Tight end: David Njoku returns to the fold and figures to be the primary tight end after Austin Hooper left Cleveland. Adding another tight end could bolster the red-zone looks for Watson and the offense. Defensive tackle: The Browns might have the best defensive end in football in Myles Garrett, but their interior linemen could use some improvement. They currently have only Taven Bryan, Jordan Elliott and Tommy Togiai listed on their roster. Improving the pass rush around Garrett will be a priority in the draft. Defensive end: If the Browns re-sign Jadeveon Clowney, this becomes less of a priority. Still, Cleveland could use the depth behind Garrett and Chase Winovich to bolster a much-needed pass rush from the edges. Kicker: Chase McLaughlin made only 71. 4 percent of his field goal tries a season ago, and while he proved reliable at shorter range, the Browns could use the draft to turn to an improvement at the position. LSU’s Cade York is the best kicking prospect in the draft, and would be a fit in Cleveland.
