The Asahi Shimbun newspaper reported last week that Japan’ s 36-year-old crown princess has “shown signs of pregnancy” with her first child and potential successor to the throne. Since Princess Masako married Prince Naruhito in 1993, Japan has clamored for the arrival of a male heir to the nation’s Yamato dynasty.
