Some examples from the newsletter BugNet: Walt Disney Co. has received hundreds of complaints that its new “Lion King” CD-ROM has a bug that shuts off the sound and even causes some PC systems to crash. Disney says the customerservice calls aren’t related to any program bugs, but online messages show that Disney has sent out numerous software fixes, or discs with program corrections, to customers who can’t get their sound to work. Then there’s Microsoft’s popular Windows 3.1 operating System. It contains a calculator that thinks 2.01 minus 2 equals 0. According to a Microsoft spokesperson, the company will fix the problem early this year.
BugNet’s editors say that most programs-especially new ones have minor bugs. But the good news is that most of the well-known software makers fix them quickly.
