MUZE has a database of 80,000 compact discs and cassettes, in various categories of recorded music. Information can be retrieved by artist, album or song title. (Classical recordings are further categorized by soloist, composer and conductor.) You’re beyond MUZE’s help if you can only hum the tune or remember the words of the refrain-but you can get song titles just by entering a key word. Punch in “brown,” for example, and MUZE will spit out a list ranging from “Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair” to the Rolling Stones"‘Brown Sugar."
MUZE doesn’t play music, and it can’t be had for a song. Retailers pay $6,000 for the computer hardware, and about $100 for each monthly update. But for customers who yearn to step right up and name that tune, the price is right-the service is free.
