The secretary of state said that around 6,000 Americans had so far been “evacuated or otherwise departed” from Afghanistan amid the chaotic withdrawal, with only a small number still in the country. Blinken pointed out that some Americans may choose to remain. “We believe there are still a small number of Americans, under 200 and likely closer to 100, who remain in Afghanistan and want to leave,” Blinken said during a news conference....

The Blue Jackets on Friday announced they have extended Bobrovsky’s contract four years, worth $29.7 million. With a $7.425 million annual cap hit, Bobrovsky’s new deal is second only to Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist’s ($8.5 million AAV). The 2013 Vezina winner was set to become a restricted free agent at the end of this season. He had been making $5.625 million on his current deal. The Blue Jays have named Indians vice president of player personnel Ross Atkins as their new general manager, the team announced Thursday. MORE: Can new managers succeed like last year’s crop? Atkins will work under new Blue Jays CEO Mark Shapiro, who spent more than two decades in the Cleveland front office before moving to Toronto this year. The Orange County sheriff’s office confirmed Saget’s death on Twitter on Monday after he was found in the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida on Sunday. “Earlier today, deputies were called to the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes for a call about an unresponsive man in a hotel room,” a statement from the sheriff’s office reads....
